Getting Started
- Login to https://www.dndbeyond.com/
- If needed create a free account
- Click the “Create a Character” button

- Choose Quick Build or Randomize
- Quick Build will create an optimized Level 1 character of your choice
- Randomize will create a random character with minimal input from you
- Choosing Standard
- I don’t recommend this option for new players. This does allow you the greatest flexibility, but should be reserved for once you understand more about the game mechanics. Think of this as hard mode.
Randomize
- Click the Randomize button

- Choose the following:
- Level 5
- Race: Your Choice of any available
- Class: Your Choice of any available
- Allow Multiclass: Off, however see not in Optional
- Allow Feats: Off, however see not in Optional
- Character Name
- Need ideas for a character name? Try the Fantasy Name Generator https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/
- Optional:
- Allow Multiclass: This advanced setting will multi-class your character which may be an advantage or disadvantage
- Allow Feats: This is an advanced setting. At certain levels you can choose between increasing base abilities or choosing a feat. Allowing the randomizer to choose could be an advantage or disadvantage for your character.
- Once selected, you should see a screen like the following and when you are ready, click the “Create Character” button

- D&D Beyond will spin the wheel and present you with the “What’s Next” Screen. Click the “View Character Sheet” button.

- Your character has been created, but is not optimized.
- Ability scores may not be the best fit
- Equipment has not been added and is not equipped
- If applicable, spells have been added, but may be what you would like to have
Quick Build
- Click the Quick Build button

- Choose the following:
- Race: Your Choice of any available
- Class: Your Choice of any available
- Character Name
- Once selected, you should see a screen like the following and when you are ready, click the “Create Character” button

- D&D Beyond will spin the wheel and present you with the “What’s Next” Screen. Click the “View Character Sheet” button.

- An optimized character sheet is displayed and your character has starting inventory.
While we need to level up and equip items and spells if applicable, this is a great starting point.
